Nothing to do with Tokais or Les Pauls but.........
Its a long story but I have just been asked to try to sell some old guitars and amps for the wife of a friend who died a while ago. Along with a 1964 Rickenbacker and a 1963 Vox AC30 amp there is a Vox Escort electric guitar - I would guess from the early 60s. Its a 2 pick up solid with 4 white plastic knobs in a line and 3 cheap looking slide swiches. It comes in a very old looking soft case (looks almost like something military from the trenches).
The output jack is not a jack socket at all but looks almost like an XLR socket in reverse (although the connector spacing doesn't seem to be the same as modern XLRs). There is a serial number on the rear of the headstock but I don't have that here with me at the moment.
Its in generally quite good condition but the neck has warped slightly over the years and there doesn't seem to be a truss rod fitted. As soon as I can I will get some pics taken and have a closer look but, in the meantime, does anyone out there know anything about this type of guitar. I have done several internet searches but with no luck.
I'd be very grateful for any info
Thanks

EDIT...... I have had another look and I don't think that the neck is original. It's possible that the guitar is a 'bitzer' - the fact that no-one seems to know what it is makes me suspicious although it does have Vox pick-ups, machine heads and fittings.

PS Does this help with identification?

Some Harmony Central reviews, without pictures though:

Maybe you'll find more info in the Vox forum, but you have to register to read there:

Thanks for that. Unfortunately the Harmony Central stuff is all about the Vox Escort Amp. I have registered with the Voxtalk forum and am waiting for the moderators to either let me in or chase me away.
Thanks again for the info

I also wondered if there really is an Escort guitar, because all I could find were references to the amp with that name. Anyhow, you could also check the different models pictured at the Vox Showroom if some of them look similar to yours:

I never herad of a VOX Escort guitar. Only the amp.
Are you 100% sure that it's called an Escort? It seems strange that they'd call a guitar the same name as an amp.

That body shape looks more like the Vox Panther or Hawk basses.

It's not that strange to have a guitar and amp named the same thing, Gibson had Super 400 and Les Paul amps & guitars.

Yes, it does resemble the Hawk and Panther basses. The more I look at the guitar, the more I think the neck and the body didn't start off on the same instrument. The neck fit is not good.

The headstock logo is shown here:

and as for the socket

Interesting though

Okay, I can read the word "Escort" on the headstock now.

Does that XLR socket look like it's original? Could the pickups be low impedance? I'm not exactly sure how you tell, maybe measure the DCR across the pins.

Gibson had some Les Paul model with low impedance pickups and it might have had XLR outputs (the Recording model?).

Did you check the Vox Forum(s)?
