Could it be that the modern AST headstock shape actually began as early as 1988 on Custom Edition AST models??

New shape. This one with truss rod adjustment at the headstock signifying it is from after the mid 2000s.
Old shape:
Kind of weird and confusing because AST Goldstars made in Japan kept the headstock shape they first had beginning in 1983 all the way through until 2003 at least while some Custom Editions and what seem to be Korean AST guitars used the newer shape?
Still sorting this out.
Surprised to realize this. Might be a way to tell what was made where?
