Got My USGP90 Tokai SG --- P90 Pickup Question

I agree, the Gotoh P90 in my Tokai junior was quite harsh and low output. I changed it for a Bare Knuckle. The secret is to roll off some of the tone control anyway to give a warmer fatter sound. I always do this on Teles as well.

    Anyone played the TJ60???

Its fat u shape like a Les Paul Junior late 50's neck. Very comfy once you've played it for a few minutes. Does'nt bother me when I switch from my 335 and 60's Tele which have very slim necks.

    Anyone played the TJ60???

Its a cool guitar, search the forum, I've posted quite a bit about it. Big fat neck like they should have, very good Tokai MIJ quality. The Gotoh pickup is'nt that great though, but thats easily changed.

    This or that???

Be prepared to back off the tone control to maybe 6 or 7, this will tame the rawness. This works well on a Teles bridge pickup too. I think the pickup in the Tokai is its weakest point, its quite low output for a P90 and lacks character but thats easily changed. The Orville should have a...

    This or that???

I have a Tokai Les paul Junior double cut and a Tele. Its one of my favourite guitars. I could'nt comment on the Orville one as I've never seen one. Though I have played a real 1960 Gibson and the Tokai was pretty close in terms of its very chunky neck profile. Juniors are very different...

    Question about wood.

Mine looks like mahogony to me. If it says it in the catelogue, then I have no reason to doubt it. Mine is'nt particularly light, though obviously not as heavy as a normal Les Paul standard.

    Truss rod cover

Yes, it will fit on a Japanese two screw one. I put a genuine Gibson bell shaped one on my Love Rock Junior.

    Clapton Fool SG

Thats one of the best copies I've ever seen. They usually look like a four year old has painted them.

Yeah, I tried new and better valves, it improved it only marginally. I would'nt believe everything you read on Harmony Central. Jim- its a 3 piece body I think.

The Valve Junior may look cool, but its a pretty lousy amp. Hums a lot and has a very nasty and trashy 60's fuzz overdriven sound. Still, what can you expect for ?99? Its going on Ebay soon.

    Change of pups on TJ60

I went for a Bare Knuckle BKP 91. The stock pickup is a little underwound and lifeless. If you put something slightly hotter in it will give you a more authentic vintage Junior tone.
