Greco that I bought about ten years ago from Cliff, a Mint Collection EG59 I believe.
1989 serial number.

SN 9 3957

Marked LS-70F

It has the Tokai style routs, Tokai model number, but Greco name on the headstock and Greco serial number...

It’s a sweet guitar. Congratulations.

What do you mean by “cleaned up”?

1985 (?) Silver Star with a serial number on the trem cover and incorrect color code.

Interesting. Guess it's possible it was going to be an LS120, but had a knot in the wood. I have a 1982 LS120 and it has mineral streaking in it. I have seen even LS200s with mineral streaks. Would probably need to be something significant to paint it I would guess, but who knows? I saw a video of someone doing that with a Tokai LS and it was flame. Sure hope it doesn't start a trend of stripping Tokais. Is the headstock break stable?

It's a crack, it doesn't seem to be moving or getting worse. My guy will take a look at it. The finish is dull in a lot of places on the guitar and a lot of scratches. It's a player grade, if I can see flame of any kind I may strip it, if not I am fine with the way it looks.

Also I can see red paint under the black under the rear control cavity where the plate goes. Could have been a burst color and painted over.

You know, now that you mention it, I had noticed when Cliff listed it that the pic of the paint at the serial number looked uneven to me. I thought it was odd.

Looking at it again, looks like possibly even paint over nicks??

Repeating numbers... 6464...

Keep us posted and good luck with it!

There are a lot of marks, I think those in the pic just didn't get hit as hard as some of the others. It looks like factory paint, I am thinking maybe they had an order for an 80 and painted over it or there was an imperfection. It's at my luthier now, see what's in the pickup cavity.

I don't think I ever posted a picture of the black LS80/120 pickup cavity. There is no veneer but I do not see flame. This image was when my luthier removed some finish, I sanded some more and cannot see any flame. The worn edge in the image looks like a veneer sometimes but it is not.

#1016910 - Last fret 'D'-stamp, V-necked ST85-ish - a late 1981 demonstrator for the new 1982 +5000JPY color option 'LB'? It has another funny anomaly:

1016910_EU-PU.jpg

U stamped over E or the other way around, what is it? Another example of a '81 guitar with an 'A' stamped pickguard by the way.
