Hi,

spotted an ST80 from '79 ....

On the very first sight all specs are clear but ... it has got a 7 digit s/n on the neckplate 90***43 ... is there something wrong ???

No pics from neck pocket or the back of the scratchplate, Tokai double stamped bridge, Tokai on Kluson tuners, stamped "80" on the last fret of rose-board, Spaghetti logo, skunk stripe and stylished TR - hole (no function) ...

The S/N is confusing me ... what do you think ??

Roger

Edit : Sorry Ned, this posting should be moved to the "eBay & Tokai sightings" section, please !!!

Did early rosewood board Springys really have an 8 hole single ply scratchplate? Strange for an "exact replica" of a 60s Strat?

Do you think it's a fishy mix - it doesn't look like an ST80 I was looking for actually !!!!!!????

Roger

Your right
But Tokai got the recipe corrected in either 1980 or 1981, that I am sure, (no skunk stripe for rosewood fingerboard, 11 screw scatchplate)

That '79 springy looks good to me, 100% vintage 1979 Tokai Springy Sound ST80 congratulations

Mick

Thanks for your cheers - but I didn't buy it yet ... too many doubts ( I'm not the Springy specialist ) :-? :-? :-?

Take a look at the back ... many dents into the wood ... :( :(

... and missing backplate and trem arm ... I wonder what the seller would have done for losing them ????

Roger

Roger ... i know you like mint to new condition gtars but those few dents on the back ain't that bad and i think togps or villager could help you with that missing arm/backplate?
if it's an good to excellent condition seventy-niner ST80 vs cheap  ... then go for it!! it looks BEAUTIFUL 8) you don't find a gtar like that in everyday ... PU's should be E stamped?

regards
SS

Sami,

YES, I hope they are ... I wish I'd know something more about the inner life of that guitar ... :-? :-? :-?

But - you're right regarding the overall condition and you know me very well, my friend ... Thanks for encouraging me !!!

Roger

How many second hand Strats are sold with the original back plate or the trem arm? Only those that have spent their sad, lonely lives shut away in a case unplayed, so I wouldn't worry about it. Looks nice, is it on eBay?

... I'll tell you when I'll have it !!! You'll understand that, I'm sure ... I have been burnt recently on a Navi purchase ...

Roger

But ... my question again ... Have those models a 7 digit S/N ???

Hip - Hip - Hurray ...

Volker,

You've released me from all my doubts ... Thanks alot for that message !!!!!

Cheers

My first Tokai was an AST-56(next was a Love Rock from Yoshi back in 2002 after speaking a lot with my beloved Tokai Master ,Peter Mac) and of couse second hand.No trem arm on mine but I don?t use it at all so no problem for me.After that I got an '81 Silver Star and again no trem arm...Now I proudly own a '79 Silver Star as my all purpouse guitar and I borrow the arm from my Navigator.....

Roger I love those ST-80s Springys,I will get one one of these days....altough I?m more a Love Rock guy.

Hi Roger, Hi Volker!

The ST100 I got from Gottfried has 7 digits too.

What's the link on yahoo?

Cheers. Rupert

I had to let it pass by ... 113,000 JPY isn't a bargain because I would have to add 28% on the retail price ( fees, taxes and others ) ... :( :(
