Not My Cross To Bear - The Allman Brothers (1969)

Fantastic blues song - one of those I heard as a kid and realized I wanted to play guitar some day:

Didn't know that one - thanks, what a great song :D

Isn't it? They were still kids back in 69...

Greg Allman's vocals are as good as I've ever heard, his B3 playing is spot on and Duane and Dickey Betts, well..... sublime. Really capture the BB King and Freddie King feel.

Mark, Rusty, Ty, and Mike Morgans old bass player Richard "RW" Grigsby.

That's Rusty Zinn playing the Strat? Never heard him play anything that wasn't Gibsonesque before. I even heard a Jimmie Vaughan lick or two at the start of his solo.

He looks old though - he must have been a mere child the time Kim Wilson brought him over here on the Tigerman tour. :-?

I dont know what the deal with the pink strat is.. He wants to change the pups in it though. He said his favorite guitar he ever owned was his 59' or 60 gibbi es 330....

Just don't make the mistake of tracking down the DVD of the Jean-Luc Godard film from earlier in 1968?

Speaking of the DVD, did you notice who was playing guitar, a white Strat, in Jethro Tull?

Haven't got the DVD, but the sleeve notes with the CD suggest that it would be Mick Abrahams, their original guitarist.

The guitarist was none other than Tommy Iommi from Sabbath. It was also the last public appearance of Brian Jones, who passed away the following July. Great version of No Expectations with Brian on slide guitar (reverse Firebird) is on that disk. 8)

"This concert is the only footage of Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi performing as a member of Jethro Tull; he was a member for this show only as a favor to Anderson while they looked for a replacement for Mick Abrahams. The band mimed to the album version of "A Song for Jeffrey" and 'Fat Man' as the Stones told them to cut their time down and it would save time on rehearsing," Fat Man' never made the final release . This footage also included some of Ian Anderson's first attempts of his now famous flute-playing position, with one leg in the air."
