I’m seriously considering purchasing an LS-50 from either 1980 or 1981 and I’m really not sure if it makes a whole heck of a lot of difference as far as a polyester or polyurethane finish is concerned. I have previously owned a 1980 Reborn Old LS-80, and a bunch of other 1980’s Japanese built Gibson model type guitars. I moved on from Japanese made guitars about 10 years or so ago, but I’m thinking about returning and going for a low end because I think the workmanship and overall quality is the best thing money can buy right now.

I just don't know if that is accurate or if it is a distinction without a difference?

Some LS50s in 1980/81 were subcontracted and made at a different factory. That may have something to do with that description?
