Gabe.

Gabe, is there a difference between LS and ST models then? The first LS with modified headstock (dimple) is from 1985.

I always go back to them with "tell me about this lawsuit stuff" and then wait for the often hilarious reply... to which I will respond again in less than gentle manner.

Not very long ago there was a guy on here from the UK that bought a Tokai strat modified headstock in 1984, can't find that post though.

I think that in the U.S. they started modifying the headstock as early as 83.here in the U.K. you could still find unmodified headstocks till at least 1990.Gabe.

do you mean earlier production still being imported at that time?

It`s difficult to tell but I doubt it.I think that there were no overiding legal reasons not to send the unmodified headstock to the U.K.This being so there was a strong commmercial incentive in terms of customer acceptance to send what were essentialy Japanese domestic Goldstars to the U.K. distributor ,but this is conjecture on my part.Gabe.

http://www.tokairegistry.com/images/catalogs/tokai8705.jpg Here`s a page from the 87/8 European catalogue. As you can see both the Strats and Teles have unmodded headstocks.Gabe.

Thanks Gabe, interesting stuff. Funny thing is that in the 1985-1986 catalog, the one with SRV on the cover, it's the other way around: modified Fender headstocks, unmodified Gibosn headstocks. It doesn't say on the back for which countries it applies to. The 1984-1985 catalog has no modifications and states it's valid for all countries except USA.

http://www.tokairegistry.com/images/reviews/TGM_p4.jpg Here`s a review from a UK magazine of a 1993 LS 55 and again the headstock is unmodded.Gabe.
