Also have my eye on a 83 LS 200. I already have a recently purchased solid top 82 LS 120, mentioned that here a few months ago. Not sure what the prime era is, correct me if I am wrong but I think I read 80-82. Where would this 85 LS 200 rate regarding quality of build and craftsmanship to my LS 120?
Didn't have a Tokai from 1982, can't say.
Based on my exp. with some higher end (and entry level) guitars - paying much for higher model only increases probability that you will get a great guitar.
One of the best LPs I played/had, over like 100, was mid-entry level Crews LS-01 FM (which I regret selling hah).
A friend of mine played like 10 Bursts, he said that only 2-4 were great other were just oridinary guitars (some were even ****)
