Hello,

I'm the proud new owner of an Tokai Silver Star. The guitar plays and looks astonishing, however I do have questions about my SS. I guess its from 1981.

Yes it?s an '81. Check catalogue colour avalaibility for more information. I owned an '81 in sunburst with a great neck. I know the owner so I?m thinking about getting her back.Enjoy it!

Pickups aren?t original.

well, I have to correct myself.
it must be an upper grade one because the tuners on it are not F-Key copies.
Tokai's "F-Keys" were being installed to only the low grade models(SS-36, 38, 40) as far as I know...

this is a pic of the tuners that I removed from my SS-48.

hi
my very first post on this forum
I just become a proud owner of my first Tokai. can someone tell me which exact year of production is and maybe something more about it? It's a Silverstar, stamped 36 on the fretboard, SNo 9007742. Here are some pictures

thank you

Nice....I have one just like it except with a rosewood fret board. The stock p'ups sound just great....

Enjoy and welcome to the forum

tnx
well, I must say it sounds fantastic, probabily the best strat I ever tried.. I use a Brunetti Maranello combo - very clean sound, on Carvin X100B + Johnson cab 4x12 sounds fantastic, crunch is just something I always wanted to have...I own several other guitars but this one will be my favourite for a while ;)

Okay, someone from on another forum told me this about my SS:

1. your Silver Starlet shows a 1981 S/N.
2. The brass saddles are mounted usual on a SS80
3. The PUP?s are not original Silver Star
4. The pick guard is modified with an ALU shield tape.
5. The poti/switch area of the pick guard is original Silver Star.
6. the match code, stamped in the body, is original Tokai.

;-)

p.s.: I sold my Fender...

Well: thank you again! ;-)

I only have serious feedback-problems with the pick-ups. They can't handle high gain. That's a pity, because they sound brilliant clean and crunch.

Good to see people from the gitaarforum here :)

Really nice silverstar you got there. Have fun with it..

In light of these answers...

1. your Silver Starlet shows a 1981 S/N.
2. The brass saddles are mounted usual on a SS80
3. The PUP?s are not original Silver Star
- Pickups could be DiMarzio FS-1 which were original for pre-83 SS-80
4. The pick guard is modified with an ALU shield tape.
- Silver stars did not have the brass sheild plate used on ST series.
They only had the sheild tape so the guard is original[/b][/b]
5. The poti/switch area of the pick guard is original Silver Star.
6. the match code, stamped in the body, is original Tokai.

regards Peter Mac

Well, thnx everyone.

Recently I changed my pickups in Fender CS '54. Now, my beloved Tokaifriends, this guitar is probably the best Strat this world has ever seen... ;-)
