I can without doubt confess to the quality of these newer guitars. Mine's a ls165s (or 145s) goldie from 2010 that I ordered sight unseen. Had'nt even played a Tokai before since they were hard to track down! (you mostly see the MIC/MIK model in my neck of the woods)

It played perfectly out of the box, and if I had the money i'd get some more. I don't doubt that the 80's Tokais are great, but at the same time I find it hard to believe that they could be much better that this particular guitar (but how would I know?)

I'm so happy I found this forum, and didnt have to go without my Tokai! :wink:

I'm with Sigmania on this.
I tend to believe the availability of quality wood in the past was better than it is now.
So, because of the limited natural resources and wood cutting restrictions nowadays, I think older is generally better.
Just my 2 cents.
