Wilko Johnson - She Does It Right

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lk2ELlbdyew&mode=related&search=

Saw the band last night. Even if you don't like Wilko's rather unusual style (pinched from Mick Green of the Pirates), just listen to the world's finest bass player, Norman Watt-Roy from The Blockheads. Amazing stuff - like Jaco Pastorius on speed! Complete with harmonics on a simple 12 bar blues - awesome player.

You DO know who Jaco is yeah?
Coz that old fella playing bass for Wilko looks like my Pop after he went to the nursing home :p
Nah...Norman Watt-Roy's ok....quite a rep....but certainly no Jaco.
Wilko annoys the ***** outta me...allways did and always will...drug fucked will only get you so far according to "Keef"

Well I agree that both Norman & Wilko fit your earlier "fell out of the ugly tree" comment from a while back. But I still reckon Norman's awesome. As far as I know (and who knows what the truth really is?) Wilko gave up drugs after he was booted out of the Feelgoods around 1977. I've chatted to him after a gig, and he certainly seemed very sober to me.

Mike

He does look as though he's clean these days...I watched an old clip of him describing his "technique" for playing that particular song and he was stoned out of his gourd...lol

You do seem vehemently anti-drug Oz, I remember your comments about Mr Frusciante! Strange for a Kiss fan?

Been around drugs for too long and seen first hand the damage they do...both to health and relationships but mostly relationships.
Good thing Ace Frehley never used drugs coz I'd never had liked Kiss then...oh....wait :p
My issues with drug use is more to do with the people who ******** about how it gets their "creative juices" flowing...or the losers who say that they've been using them for so long that they can't function normally without them.
People like Kieth Richards , Joe Walsh AND Ace Frehley are walking examples of the ongoing effects of overuse...niether of them use any substances these days but they still look/sound more drug fucked than your average crack-ho.
I should know...I have the worst addictive personality and had a drug scare when I was younger.

In that case I broadly agree with you, but only as it applies to me or close friends - I don't give a toss what musicians/entertainers take. I've never even tried anything stronger than cannabis!

Keith Richards never uses "substances" any more - are you sure? I love Keith, but he's so clearly stoned all the time. But then, to a lot of former heroin addicts, a spliff or several doesn't even count as "drugs" (neither does a bottle of Jack Daniels each day!).

Anyway, back to the music! As far as I know, this guy has been strongly anti-drugs all his life. But even if that's not true, I don't care!
