I found another Tokai in our local shop.
P bass with only "Tokai' label on headstock

Please help identify its authenticity.

Thanks

The year made is still up for debate. 1983-1985 it seems.

The model is not as easy to pin down.

It is below the 60 level since it has 3 screw tuners.

1984 catalog:

TPB Series

TPB40 / MODERN MODEL / ¥40,000 Powerful sound of super-heavy class, unparalleled playability. Special hardware is the best area for beginner class base. It is a model born in pursuit of high cost performance. A masterpiece dedicated to rockin' bassists.

TPB48 / MODERN MODEL / ¥48,000 Slim 1-piece maple neck for dynamic base running. The tight and deep bass produced by the split-type pickup is worthy of the name of a hard puncher. The pinnacle of middle-class bass with almighty expressiveness.

TPB50 / MODERN MODEL / ¥50,000 Unique special metallic color that supports wild stage action. Dedicate powerful sound to live musicians.

TPB60 / MODERN MODEL / ¥60,000 A one-piece maple neck that promises reliable and stable fingering, and a lightweight waist-cut body that won't fatigue you even after playing for a long time. A wide range of well-balanced sounds, from rock to fusion. The definitive technical base.

TPB50V-GS / 1959 MODEL / ¥50,000 A highly anticipated new item from the oldies series. A high-grade sound that perfectly expresses the bassist's sensibility as well as being lively. Vintage model

TPB50V-OWR/1964 MODEL / ¥50,000 Old reverse wound pegs, elegant silver logo, and tortoiseshell pickguard perfectly reproduce the feeling of the 1960s. An oldies model with a tight, sharp, and heavy sound.

TPB80V-GS / 1957 MODEL / ¥80,000 The pinnacle of TPB vintage models. Hard Rock maple 1-piece neck, alder veneer carved body, and newly developed PB vintage pickups reproduce the old-fashioned sound. A true original bass that is extremely old.

TPB80V-YSR / 1960 MODEL / ¥80,000: Hardware and parts that recreate the original version. We guarantee the highest level of play performance.

Looks like the metallic red paint makes it likely that it is a TPB50 MR

The 40 and 48 did not have that color as an option in 1984, which is around the time this bass was made.

Also it has 3 screw tuners so not a 60.

Do you have any pics of the pots? They may have a date code on them.

You're welcome.

Here are the specs from the 1984 catalog.

Looks like it has a U neck.

I am thinking this was made in early 1982 and had a spaghetti logo that was changed. It may have been one of the guitars seized by Customs in the UK?

Considering the serial number, the 3 screw tuners, and the MR color I would guess it is a 1982 PB50 MRR.
