Here are two 1980 ST guitars that fall within the LS range for the year. I am curious about the combined or separate serialization.

Update: first logged Reborn Old is now 0007474

"Current first & last found serial numbers for LS & LC models from 1978 to 1985:

1978 8000101 8002059
1979 9000202* 8006403
1980 0006482 0011896
1981 1010458 1016397
1982 2010757 2013439
1983 3010827 3016105
1984 4016175 4023546
1985 5023553 5033731

* This is an odd 1978 style 2P neck LS with impressed serial number, I further haven't found any LS below SN 9002182.

Inkies:
1980 0100259 0104340
1981 1101630 1102068 "

I bought an Inkie off Skybone- nice guitar Skybone how are the kids ?- and became interested in them. I have collected a lot of pictures and some written discriptions and can add a little to the picture.

It seems some 1978 Reborns were inkies :I have an 1978 LS50 picture numbered 8000382- and a LS60 picture 8001749 that definately looks like an inkie (but there could be some doubt about).

1980
I have a German advert for LS50 0100106 (but no picture).
My own is a LS60 0100161 and I have a picture of a LS60 numbered 100215

1981- I have a report (but no picture) of an inkie 1101575
and a picture of a LS50 numbered 1102089 (possibly the last number is a 5)

So that adds a few at the begining of the 1980 Inkies and a few to the begining and the end of the 1981.
I can't see how to post pictures- am willing to email them if you want to see them.
But good work Jaco and all the best to everyone for 2012

Hey Scouse, thanks for input!!

Yep, all 1978 Reborns are inked serialized up to at least 8001214. They are just not addressed as 'inkies'. Those are the ones from 1980/81 with '1' as second digit (and with a dowel tenon) possibly made the Nagano plant.

Would be great if you could post some pics. You can use Photobucket, upload your pics there and copy the IMG code, which you can paste here in your post.

You could also PM me. I do read German very well..

Thanks again!

Hi, i saw this thread and thought i d post my SNs - shame i didn t know this as i ve owned some Tokais i sold in the past

My camera is not all that good, i ve tried to take pics of the numbers but they are not visible, will try again soon. Until then here are my numbers:

Reborn Old ls-50 - 007710

Springy Sound st 60 - 0013307

Springy Sound st 55 - 9005208

cheers jacco, it is a very high number indeed! they must ve been working hard in 1980!

Chu, I just checked my database and the latest 1980 Fender type Tokai I have is my own ST-55 with number 0012595. I would love to have a pic of your serial number!!

Look at this:

0008919 still with impressed model in the fretboard. I have logged LS's up to 0009384 with fretboard model number, first stickered LS I have logged 0009575. That's 1000 models apart.

It would be logical that a changes like this, from fretboard stamp to headstock sticker, would occur at a certain point in production.
Any ideas on why there's a difference between STs and LS's?

I will try to take a pic later when i get home. The thing is the number is quite hard to see, as the plate is really worn out. It s gonna be tricky to get it right, specially considering my poor photographic skills. Took me a while to actually see the number yesterday, but i was with a friedn and he agreed with me.

Ok, thanks for taking the time!
Here's how I did it, reflection of the light outdoors will work best:

Do we know at what point in production the fingerboard number stamp was applied? Were the boards stamped before assembly? With the Fender necks being separate from the bodies, that might explain some of it but I am not sure.

I don't know but it would be logical that both methods were applied right at the end of the production proces.
Although it might be the case that certain high grade fretboards/necks were designated for higher end models, maybe explaining your recent find of a Reborn decalled LS-120 right in the middle of Reborn Old production. That would also automatically conclude that the serial number is the last thing that is applied.

ok, managed to take some pics this morning
