I mean no personal attack either. I worry for my kids future, socialism won't do it either but choice would, when you are forced to adopt new laws and technologies for the sake of it or for the profit of a minority you could almost call that socialism already....We are becoming more and more controlled with less freedoms all forced on by minority groups trying to force their ideologies on all of us, i for-see revolution in our future....Get rid of political correctness and bring back common sense....

Mick

JV, I didn't take it as a personal attack, I was just defending my position.

I 100% agree with you Mick, freedom and personal choice are the way forward. I mean real freedom, not what we have now.

On the other hand, I'm eternally grateful for what I have, a very comfortable life and more guitars than I could have dreamed of when I was a teenager (though there is always one more...). NZ ain't too bad either... they give every new arrival a flock of 10 sheep to keep them warm at night.

Back to the original topic... the Gibson CEO was on the board of the Rainforest Alliance!

I love the place. My wife is a Kiwi and all her family are around Rotarua, we go over as often as we can and are coming over again in January. Going down to Napier for a couple of days then to Taupo and over to Whakatane do do some fishing. New Zealand reminds me of Queensland in the 70's, i think that one of the reasons i like it so much, that and the cooler weather...

I am not sure that it was because of the specific material that is in question. It could quite possibly be a breach that involved taxes being avoided.

Which do you think comes first in the land of beaurocracy and government?

Save a rainforest on the other side of the world?

or

Save our coffers from running dry?

Worked for catching Al Capone.

I knew there was a reason I still have my 760kg 1961 Morris 1000. When the energy dries up, I will still be on the road running home brewed alcohol in the tank.

Just me and my Morry and all those roads 8)

Apparently some degree of concern is about that, because this kind of legistlation work is done:

A lot of emotional rhetoric. A softened, 2009 call to restore democracy and the capitalist benefits afforded to those at the top of the food chain.

A PC version of Cuba revisited.

It makes me laugh when people talk about the evils of socialism, & quote the fall of the Berlin Wall as an example of how socialism failed. That wasn't socialism!

Compare the alleged evils of socialism in the Western world with the plain-as-the-nose-on-your-face evils of greed in the banking sector. I'm sure it's not just the UK where this has been clearly demonstrated. The banks & their system fail - massively. We bail out the banks, but we apparently have no control over them, & they continue to fuel their greed-filled lives by paying themselves massive & totally undeserved bonuses at our expense!

And socialism is more evil than that? I think not....

So, it's OK to own a Golf, but no other car? Cool, glad I bought a Golf then (well the Spanish version)!

Mike

so many wonderfull resources are wasted in an awfull way.disgusting.
i give you a simple example.
back in september the vw golf1 production was stopped in south africa.
it had "old and simple" technique.
but was a VERY reliable car.
did not consume to much and the weight was about 800 kilos.
800!
and now compare that to a new golf.1400 kilos.
full of electric.vmax is >180 km.
speed limit is in most countries +- 110 km.
is the world really needing this "progress"?????

in the end we will have no more wood at all.
and with the wood the plants and animals are gone.
VW sell cars that people want to buy. Progress is a good thing, otherwise we'd all be living in caves.

If you want to save rainforests, then buy one and look after it:

http://www.ownforest.com/
hi and thank you for your reply,

"Progress is a good thing, otherwise we'd all be living in caves."
agreed.
but let me ask you, where is the progress here??

new golf:
it offers more convenience, true.and more top speed.

but the main purpose, to get you safe from a to b has not improved.
neither is the newer car more fuel effiecient.
on the other hand, much more resources are needed.
so where is the progress?

back to wood/guitars.
are you really sure, that newly produced guitars are much better than older ones? implying a better threw progress theory...........

progress is good, but at some point, there is no more room for improvement.

the real issue is this one:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madagascar

"Since the arrival of humans 2000 years ago, Madagascar has lost more than 90% of its original forest."

Well I'm not saying I disagree with your basic point, but to answer your specific question, if you compare an old Golf with a new one, the new one will have all kinds of extra kit to make life more comfortable - air conditioning, cruise control, on-board computer, complicated stereos etc. etc. It will probably be faster too.

But far more important, the new Golf will be much safer in the event of a crash due to air bags, seat belts, crush zones etc. etc.

I'm not saying that justifies it though.

That would have to be without doubt one of the most ignorant and stupid things i have ever heard. The car manufacturers sell things to make money, and there is the problem, everything is based solely on profits and greed and peoples welfare comes a distant second. The problems with the idiots running the world is that they think they own everything and we should all buy it back of them at stupid profit levels when everything on this planet is OURS collectively. I could write pages on this topic but with that attitude it would be a total waste of time. Most technologies are for technologies sake and we are drowning in our own selfishness. I am about to buy a house, 10 years ago i could have bought 4 for the same price, you can stick you greedy progress where the sun don't shine...

Mick

hi mick.
100% agree.

a simple car can be nice, but the producer does not make a lot of money.
maintenance can be done in a cheap way :D
new cars with electronic, hmm, different story.
you MUST come to a licensed service station.=big bucks......for them.

yes, more convenient.
safer? hmm, not so sure.
the golf 1 was produced until 1983 in germany.
one of the few countries with no speed limit.
i had an audi tt. suddenly the airbag initiated..........
