I just bought this Goldstar and need help identifying. There is no serial number on the neck plate. Bought for 250.00. I haven’t had the neck off or been into the pup cavity yet. The guy said it was a 1984. This guitar sounds really great. Any info would be great. Thanks

Not a lot to go on.

First thing I see is someone lost the original screws attaching the neck to the body. That’s concerning. I can’t think of a good reason to do that unless it was re drilled or something to fit another neck to the body. Or the body and neck were found separately. But I shouldn’t get ahead of the process.

First step is to remove the neck and photograph everything. Neck pocket. End of neck and where it fits in the neck pocket.

You also need to remove the pickguard and photograph the cavities, pickups, pots, etc. in order to sort this out.

It could be all sorts of stuff at this point.

At present it looks like an AST neck. And the bridge saddles are entry level. It could be a Korean guitar or a partscaster or a mid 80s AST40. But we need more pics.

Hope that helps.

You’re welcome. Looks like the tuners were changed too.

Somebody was definitely messing around under that neck plate. Curious to see what they were up to.

Yes sorry…..tuners were changed. the guy I bought if from did tell me that. No idea why the neck plate was changed. The body feels right to me but who knows. Guitar sounds great. I’m going to have my local luthier set it up and will have him remove neck and scratch guard so I can get pictures.

The most important pictures would be:
-inside the neck pocket
-butt of neck
-backside of neck
-all cavities
-back of pickguard showing pickups and wiring
-detail pics of pots showing clear images of any codes present
-selector switch with any code present

Got some pics of neck pocket and pup cavity. Any idea what year it could be or if it is a Tokai. Thanks so much

Interesting.

it looks like you have wedded parts as we suspected.

The neck is a Tokai AST neck. Hard to say when it was made without seeing the butt end and any markings present.

The body is not a Tokai body. It has a big bathtub type rout that I have never seen on a Tokai and it does not have other tell tale Tokai features.

The pickups are ceramic. Hard to say who made them and the

Looks like there may be a serial number stamped in ink on the body in the neck pocket. Looks like 1071118 and a C mark?

Not sure who may have made that body.

Thanks so much for all the help! Bummed it’s not a Tokai body. Hoping to get more info on the body being possibly a squier.

I don’t know anything about these. A quick search seems to indicate they are made in Taiwan and Indonesia.

Your guess is as good as mine. Definitely not Tokai.

As I said the neck looks like it is a Tokai AST neck. Need the neck code to know more.

And it looked like they may have re-drilled the body to attach it.
