Hello, a greco sv1800 is being sold in japan actually, I can't find any information about it on the web, do you think it realmy exists ? Or a very smart guy just added a one on the sticker inside the body to make it extremely valuable in appearance ?

I give you the pictures I have at disposition : i-img600x400-1713269229jjd0eb25.jpg

I count on you guys, I don't want to invest on a guitar that is a valuable but not as much as expected because it's a model that don't exist

And here are the Super Real's in 1980 so you can see the price points.

Hard to believe that one is an 1800.

I am thinking it may have been a mistake by whoever it was that was filling out these labels. Same handwriting.

The one you are looking at (with the added "1") SN H797080 is an earlier one than the one I linked on Reverb, SN H797568. Both from the same month (August 1979).

I agree with you that it seems to be from the same pencil, thank you very much for your help

edit : I am talking about the 1 in front of the 800, we clearly see that it's the same ink. I believe that the guy has seen a EG1800 or was about to take one in hands and was impressed so he made this mistake.

No telling "why" the 1 is there, but it is clear that it does not belong there.

If I put on my Sherlock Holmes hat, I find it interesting to look at the spacing of the characters.

The two labels are the same, except the "1" seems to be somwhat crowded in there, as though it were added.

And if it were added, we can only guess as to why it was added.

I agree that someone probably added the "1" to the label. It doesn't even make sense that a SV-1800 would exist considering the highest SA model in the 1979 Greco catalog is SA-900. That would be quite a jump in model numbers without any visible difference in features from a SV-800.

"A model that doesn't exist" is always a difficult statement to make about Grecos, given that they ran a custom shop-like operation starting in 1972. There are countless weirdos, oddballs and unicorns out there (I know, I have a few of them), built for distributors, retail chains and end customers. But having said that, this one looks so close to standard SV-800 specs that it's kind of hard to imagine what they could have added to merit more than doubling the price? Legit Gibson pickups, possibly??

Otherwise, a forgery attempt seems somewhat likely, the 1 seems to be squeezed into the space the original writer would have left between the dash and the 8. On the other hand, that would be pretty hard to do through an F-hole...? You'd need a steady hand and a good eye for colour matching. But who knows?
But I personally wouldn't be prepared to pay more that the going rate for an SV-800 for it.
