I'm a Tokai newbie, and wos looking for an MIJ Fender but came across this thing on e-bay but as I didn't know about Tokai's I dithered and missed it. Since finding this site I know a lot more and realise what interesting beasts they are.

Anyway, interested in thoughts on this one and if I missed a good buy. It's been modified, though pups are often updated I understand and Holy Grails are pretty good quality, though the bridge is not original.

Yes I noticed that one. Rather too many parts had been changed for my liking, including bridge, tuners, nut, knobs, pickup covers etc. But assuming the body was all intact & original (no horrible routs), that's a good price for a matching headstock Goldie. In all original condition, that would have probably gone for around ?400.

The necks on Goldies tend to be a bit slimmer than the MIJ Fenders I've tried.

Looks in good shape, matching headstock and block logo must make it a bit of a rarity, but at the end of the day it's all about the mods: if the mods and the overall look of the guitar are to your taste, then I think ?300 would seem a good price to you. If you were after more of a vintage reissue vibe (as Goldies normally have) then you just wouldn't bid on this one. So I don't think you missed a total bargain - this particular guitar had quite a niche appeal.
