It is a nice one..

Nice guitar.
Welcome back tokaiplusmarshall
Your last post was five years ago!
Any reason for your abstinence?

L serial number on a Springy? Is that a 1982 feature? Interesting to note that it apparently has FINAL PROSPEC saddles & steel trem block - only the last year or two of Springys had those features.

It looks nice - ST50?

Mike

Yes, I'm the seller. It is an ST-50. Yes, some Springys in '82 had L serials. There is nothing unusual about an L serial Springy from 82. Yes, it does have deluxe tuners and final prospec saddles.

If you could just stamp "50" on the fretboard, like on the older Springys, forum member ochay will probably buy it from you!

Mike

(by the way, I'm joking, please don't actually do it!)

:D Yeah, I don't know why that is...to my knowledge there was no rhyme or reason as to why some got stamped and some didn't... in any case, I've owned many, many Springys and there was no difference in quality between stamped ones and unstamped ones.

They changed in 1980. Pre 1980 they stamped the board, which was a far more sensible idea than a stupid little sticker on the back of the neck! Why someone thought dropping the stamp was a good idea I will never know. Maybe someone at the Tokai factory in 1980 had shares in a paper sticker company?

Hmmm...interesting. I thought I had some 1980 (maybe 81) springys with stamps. Could be wrong as I never paid all that much attn. to the stamp as it relates to the year. Even without the stamp or sticker, it is pretty easy to tell what model it is by looking at the body pieces and neck shape.
I never cared much for ST80s and up because I don't like V shape necks...even though the 80s are the more expensive model, my fav Springys were ST50s (as a player, not a collector).

I believe that 1980 was the transition year, so you can see 1980 models with either stamps or stickers. The V neck on my ST80 is great, one of the nicest Strat necks I've tried. I do love the RW Goldstar ST50 necks as well though, & I assume that they are the same as Springy ST50s.
