I have to disagree. Check out the photo here. You can clearly see 2 ribbons running from the top right down through the cavity side cut.

I have an '82 LS100 that has a lot of this going on. There was a thread on it a few years back. The good pics are on page 2:

The thing I don't understand about these tops is: why put a laminate on top of a cap that is clearly flamed anyway? And then why go to the pains to match the seam exactly while also matching the flame pattern of the laminate top to the cap. It seems that would be extremely difficult, if not impossible, and probably more expensive than using a flamed top in the first place.
