2009 Goldstar Sound strat, is this one a rarity?

I agree to an extent that the gotoh pickups are not perfect, they are perhaps a bit 'sterile' sounding. Certainly better than the stock pickups on a similarly priced fender though.

2009 Goldstar Sound strat, is this one a rarity?

Thanks for the detail, interestingly the blonde mary kaye style is not listed as a finish option yet I was able to buy one new last year, also the same dealer (Frets Guitar Centre) advised that I could get a black TST50 ('blackie' style) if wanted.

2009 Goldstar Sound strat, is this one a rarity?

That looks to be very similar to my above '09 strat, the one difference (it may just be the lighting in the photo) is that the tint on the neck on my strat seems to be a good deal darker (it's as dark as you would see on eric johnson strats for example). This also distinguishes it from my other...

2009 Goldstar Sound strat, is this one a rarity?

Hi All, I bought last week new from a music shop a Tokai Goldstar Sound (presumably TST50) strat copy. They had it in the shop for years and I finally decided if noone else was having it then I would. The strange thing is, I thought Tokai were not making these fender copies in 2009, and that...

Replacing nut on TST50 Goldstar Strat

Do you know if the nut is curved or flat underneath?

Replacing nut on TST50 Goldstar Strat

Hi all, I have a new 2013-made TST50 (mary kaye style) and since I bought it the top e string has buzzed in a 'sitar' type when played open. I am going to take the guitar to a tech to get this dealt with, one of the possibilities I'm considering is that the nut needs to be replaced. To aid...

    2005 Goldstar Sound, callaham block?

Well, I just put a 500k volume pot in, it has definitely balanced the tone nicely, a cheap fix - thanks for the advice.

    2005 Goldstar Sound, callaham block?

Now there's an idea... Would all the pots need to be upgraded to 500k or would changing the volume pot alone suffice?

    2005 Goldstar Sound, callaham block?

Thanks for the feedback. I too think the weight of the body is a factor - it's a bit on the heavy side. The guitar doesn't however sound 'dead', just not as 'snappy' as I'd like. I have read that the callahm blocks can improve the tone in this regard, and also give greater string seperation...

    2005 Goldstar Sound, callaham block?

Hi All, I have a 2005 goldstar sound strat that I am overall fairly happy with, however I find it's tone quite 'dark' - possibly due to the heavier than average body. Whilst the sustain is very good, I always feel it doesn't have as much 'sparkle' as a strat should. I have already changed the...

Sourcing replacement scratchplate for Circa 2005 AST50

Thanks for your reply, I'm in Northern Ireland, I know it is a small job and I may very well have to get somebody to drill me the solution. It would be preferable not to have to do so however, should I want to sell it with the option of the original plate for example. There are plenty of...

Sourcing replacement scratchplate for Circa 2005 AST50

I am trying to source official tokai parts, specifically I want to get an anodized gold scratchplate for my AST50 I bought one that at a glance appeared to be the correct 'fit': '57 reissue type plate with the appropriate number of screw holes, but alas as the pics below show, it doesn't line...

    RW/RP middle pickup for ast50?

It is a big advantage in my experience. Anyway, can anybody answer my original question here? So far I've contacted and am awaiting a reply from: tokai uk tokai japan seymour duncan I would have thought if there was anywhere on the web I could get some informed advice on this matter it would...

    RW/RP middle pickup for ast50?

I have a 2005 AST50 with the stock pickups (TOK-1K? possibly) and as part of the 'authentic' vintage vibe of the guitar the middle pickup is not rw/rp, so basically there's hum in all 5 positions. I am shielding the guitar but also want to purchase a replacement middle pickup that will be rw/rp...
