Does any know if the headstock fillet on tokai goldstars circa 1984
is actualy a wood fillet , or do i remember reading somewhere that they where just painted/stained in ?

ca. '85 TST-55 = dark brown varnish

Surely there must be a hole underneath or how else could they anchor the truss rod?

Looking at mine closely, I see a tiny area where the varnish is missing at the sharp end of the teardrop. I can barely make out the outline of a plug with what looks like a thin veneer wedge in the centre line, so maybe the paint/varnish is just a cosmetic finish.
