What is it about the vintage (from the eighties) Tokai guitars from the seventies and eighties that makes them better than the contemporary Tokai guitars? It seems that the vintage Tokai are more expensive and more sought after than the contemporary Tokai. I understand that the wood age and gets better resonant with time, but what else? Were they built better in those days? Better hardware, better wood used?

Who says all vintage tokais are always better than contemporary ???
Tokai has since today the same high quality standard and even less quality issues as PRS...

Vintage Tokais...
-Broken-in, vintage feel
-Different look and finish colors
-Rare and hard to find
-The guitars that started the "legend"

New Tokais...
-Still being made, contact a dealer and order what you want :)

Yes but Gibson and Fender had some glorious years and produced a lot of crap later. That's why people are praising the guitars from the good times. But japanese Tokais were produced from good woods and in very high quality from the beginning until today.Okay brazilian rosewood is not available anymore but if we can hear any difference between braz and some different rosewoods ? My 2005 LS150 is a fantastic guitar and will be a great vintage guitar in 15-20 years
