There are lots of differently-priced Tokai LS models in Vintage series, but only two SG models (88 and 118) and two AST models - why is it so? Is it that those guitars needs no improvements (hence no need for some 150 model) or that they're so unpopular?

Also, since SG's body is thinner, hence less wood is used, does it mean that for the same quality it is cheaper than LS?

There a big difference between a Les Paul, LS, and a Strat, AST.
A Strat is two pieces of wood/alder held together with 4 screws, throw in some hardware and a set of pickups and you have a guitar...it's simple stuff.
No need for a bunch of different models, AST70 and AST100.

A Les Paul is a different story, a much more complicated guitar to build.
Some guitarists like plaintops, some like Flames, some like quilts, some like gold hardware and solid colour "customs", some like all mahogany customs, some guys like P90s, some like humbuckers, etc...thus the need for so many different models, to try please everyone.

I don't think the SG style guitars were big sellers for Tokai. They made a lot more LS guitars than SG, Explorer, V it seems. At least in the vintage years.

Maybe it's because you can buy ten Les Pauls and they all look different (different top, flame, color)? But SG guitars look pretty much the same so you only need one or two.

At least in the US, you can find loads of Gibson SG's for low prices. It doesn't make sense to buy a copy when the original is plentiful.
