In the early 00s there were two UK runs, around 24 instruments total, where Tokai bodies were sent to the UK and given custom hardware/electronics and a relic finish.

Think I found them.

"Retrospec"

UK limited run post production relics stretching over several years beginning with a Les Paul Reborn “Retrospec” in 2001.

The relics were LS70F's that were sent to the UK, refinished in nitro and given new hardware/electronics by an independant relic'ing agent.

There were 12 made in 2002 and another 12 in 2003 - apparently there were 'retrospecs' before that and there may have been some made in 2004.

I just found this other run, different than the "Retrospec"?

Is this the one you were talking about? LS75Fs relic'd?

"TOKAI LS75F 59 RELIC RARE

opportunity to acquire a very rare tokai, only 24 of these made it to England in 2002/3 according to the info available on the net. These guitars arrived as unfinished body's from japan and were then finished and given the relic finish in England. The tokai forums suggest they were sold by coda music for £1200 when new.

These guitars are a really nice copy of the '59 les paul so they have a gibson 50's neck. Speaking of which they have the long neck joint for better sustain (see photo). The hardware is wilkinson as are the pick ups, which are the wilkinson PAF clones, not to be confused with wilkinsons cheap stuff, I own 2 gibson les Paul's and this guitar is as good as them in every way.

Obviously as it is a relic there's lots of dings and faded road worn bits, the pictures are accurate. There is some fret wear to frets 2 and 3 which is shown clearly in one of the photo's. This is having no negative effect on the guitars playability whatsoever, and there's plenty of life in the frets.

Talking of playability this guitar has a very low action with no buzzing or choking.

It's worth noting that these guitars have no serial numbers probably as a result of them being a joint Japanese UK project."
