I just received my "new" 1982 FV-50, shipped from Japan to Montana. So far I'm really enjoying it. It's astonishingly light, although that might be because my other guitars are Les Pauls and a '79 Fender Strat, all very heavy. I'll throw it on the scale when I get a minute.
There's wear and a few very minor issues. Some screws are rusty. Some finish is worn, especially the inevitable wear at the wingtips.
It needs a good cleaning. I wiped some of the red fuzz lint from the gig bag off, but there's plenty still on in the photos. Some screws are rusty and will need to be carefully removed and replaced. There's dust and grime to remove. Nothing astonishing for a 40+ year old instrument.
The pickups sound nice. I'm happy so far.
Back when I was in high school, I worked, saved, sold, and traded my way into an early 1990s used Gibson Flying V in white. I loved that guitar, but sold it in my 20s to buy a "grown up" guitar to use in musical theater gigs and such. I've missed it, and finally got this as my first V since those days.
A few questions:
What kind of wood are these? Mahogany, or some other wood?
Am I correct on the date? Does the serial number line up with a 1982 date of manufacture?
I already asked in another thread, but does anyone know where to get a Tokai branded truss rod cover? I'd like a white cover, ideally one that says "Tokai."
I know the speed knobs aren't original. Anything else here look like it was changed or modded?
