I’ve owned this ‘81 ES-100J for 5 years. It’s needed new frets since I got it. Was playable, but barely. I imagine the frets were similar to those on the “Fretless Wonder” Black Beauties. Definitely no more fret life for a level.
I waited so long partly due to cost and probably equally because I was afraid to lose the fret edge binding. I think I had more anxiety over that than enlarging the potentiometer holes!
It plays so well now!! Notes on the higher frets really sing now!
Got it done at Healy Guitars in Massachusetts. I even got to play a guitar he custom made for Frank Black of The Pixies!
