I'm starting to GAS for a Strat and, as much of a fan as I am of Fender Japan instruments, it occurred to me that I shouldn't disregard Edwards as a possible Strat provider.

If I were to go the FJ route, it would probably be a ST62-78TX

whilst the Edwards contender is the E-SE-93M/LT:

One obvious difference is the rosewood vs maple fretboard (although the Edwards is available in both, I prefer the colour options here...call me shallow if you will!! I happen to like both maple and rosewood...) but I'm more interested in the neck profiles.

I've generally found FJ necks to be great (excluding 'V' profiles but again that's my personal taste) but I've never played an Edwards so I'm curious as to what the necks are like on their Strats.

Similarly, I like the way Texas Specials perform on my Walnut Tele but I'd be interested to know how Seymour Duncans deliver in a Strat.

Any views on this would be appreciated.

All the Fender Japan necks I've tried are poly finished, which is a big drawback for me. Nitro feels so much better. Are there any Fender Jap necks that are nitro finished?

I've also found that the Fender Jap 62 reissues have chunkier necks than the Fender US versions, so I've never fallen for a Fender Jap neck. Personal preference, I guess. On the other hand, my mate has a battered old Goldstar with a nice slim rosewood board neck. Still poly finished, but a nice slim profile.

This would be an advantage as far as I'm concerned, as I'm not keen on the shallow necks of the US Standard Fenders; the '59 Les Paul type necks suit me, although maybe not quite to that degree of chunkiness on a Strat!

Establishing where the Edwards neck profiles fit into this scheme of things remains a big point for me.
