I have a 1982 fretless Jaco bass by tokai. I have recently been offered a swap for a Marvit Apofi from 2015, it is 1 of 1 in the world. It has miles better hardware and build quality. But is the tokai worth keeping a hold of as an investment, or will it simply stay at around the 1200 mark.

That is something only you can decide! Collectors tastes change with time. Make sure it is a 1 of 1 as there are others out there.

The model isnt 1 of 1 but the finish is, it's Spalted maple and was featured on Bass magazine

Of course, but the company has only produced one custom bass in this finish that's what I should have articulated. I have some pics of the tokai I currently have if you know anything about it

The original JP model JG70J,was the same colour as yours but no scratchplate! The other version with a scratchplate had no fret lines or dots. So yours might just be the JB 120FL in YS and would have a Brazilian Rosewood neck.
You need to look in the neck pocket and pickup cavities for the codes that should be there.

I doubt it, I've seen a few but different looking due to the nature of Spalted Maple, in that Limited Edition model. Even available on Amazon at the time.
