The prices on these ST-80s seem to keep climbing. This is the highest auction starting price I've ever seen for an ST-80 and almost the same as the highest auction selling price of 200K Yen for a 1980 ST-80 GS with OHSC and case candy in near mint condition last year before the used MIJ guitar market softened. Should be interesting to see the outcome of this one.

No surprise considering that (my perception, I may be wrong) the market seems to have been swept clean of ST-100s and only ST-80s are still popping up once in a blue moon. OTOH, the price seems still civil compared to top LS models of that vintage and you get a 43 years old Strat with some quality features for less than a new guitar with comparable features from Corona, CA. I bookmarked this one on Buyee, I'm curious too where that ends. :)

That’s $1,320.

I think of an ST80 in top shape as being worth $1,500-2,000 depending on condition.

Seems like an ST60 in top shape can bring $1,200 in some cases.

And there are always surprises.

This guitar is a bit rough. I’m guessing it may sell for that start price but shipping is an X factor. Not sure what it would cost to ship a guitar to me here in the states these days.

Last time I had one shipped from Japan it was IIRC 140€, plus 20% import tax (which you guys don't have to suffer), that would be ~1,700€ here (if it sells for 200,000JPY that is).

A new Fender AV II '57 Strat with nitro over polyurethane (2TS) finish would be currently 2,100€ at Thomann (well, if they get some in a few months). I'd then factor in the personal perception of how high the risk of getting a dud or something with QA issues might be for each, and make a decision.

Note how neutral I phrased that. :)
