TSG and LR headstocks scarf jointed?

I just got my hands on a TSG 60 from the early 1980s, which I will review in detail and post an article on soon. It has a 17 degree headstock angle like the original SG from the early 1960s. But I am curious - is the TSG headstock scarfjointed? Were the Love Rocks scarfjointed?

    Tremelo arms

Hi, I am looking for a tremelo arm for my FVD 80 from the earl 1980s. I was wondering, do these arms match the dimensions of Fender arms? Or are they different?

    Built my own guitar

Just completed my first build. I call it the “Wabi-Sabi xCaster” Why “Wabi Sabi”? This poor guitar went through more cycles of iteration than any musical instrument should endure! I decided to celebrate the scars it had collected through the process, rather than hiding them apologetically. This...

Which model do I have? Flying V edition

Hi All, Once again I could use your expertise in determining precisely which model I have just purchased :) I am branching out from Strats in an attempt to have one guitar of every distinct major design made by Tokai. So, here is a Flying V that I recently purchased (still to reach me): The...

NGD - Tokai Star FSD 120

This is the first of my non-Strat style vintage Tokai. I hope to collect one model of each distinct iconic shape over the years to come (LP, SG, ES, Tele). But here’s a STAR to kick things off! You can read about the history of this guitar on my website - Tokai FSD 120 BBR | SiaVintageGuitars...

    ST tone/volume knobs

I am looking for replacement knobs for one of my ST 100s. I purchased the ones below that were advertised as ‘70s Tokai knobs, and I didn’t look carefully when buying but notice now that they have dots under the numbers (which is unlike any of the knobs on my STs). Any of your Tokais have knobs...

    What model do I have?

I just bought this one and while it will take a few months to reach me I was hoping you could help me identify the precise model. It doesn’t have a stamp. Here are some key features: 1. Serial number 0016203 2. Butterfly string tree 3. Kluson tuners 4. No teardrop or skink stripe 5. Laminate...

    Custom ST colours?

Were custom colours like the FO only available on the ST-80 and higher? Or could one have those on the lower models too? One of the catalogues say that only guitars costing 80K Yen and more can be customized, so I was wondering. I have just bought an FO with U neck, rosewood laminate, matching...

    St-80 in "U" neck?

Did the ST-80 always come in V necks or do we have examples of them in U necks too? The catalogues seem to say V necks, but I have learned from my very little experience already that there are many inconsistencies between the catalogues and actual guitars :)

    NGD: ST-100 Natural

Hi All, I always felt like natural would be the perfect colour for a 1-piece ST 100, and I’m happy to share that I just acquired one :) I’ve written a detailed article on it by studying catalogues and reading new and historical posts of veteran members and experts on this forum. Here’s a link in...

    Phillips vs Allen key

I’m a bit confused by when / which models had which. The 1981 catalogue shows the Philips type for the ‘64 model. But I have seen a 1980 with the Allen. We’re these inconsistencies common?

    Metallic red or Fiesta

The 1981 catalogue introduces the MRR metallic red. But I have seen a “fiesta” red advertised recently for the same period. Are the MRR true metallic colours or are they more like Fiesta red?

    Greco Tele vs Tokai Tele

I have 2 STs, a Fender 15th Anni Strat, a Les Paul Custom, and an old Ibanez H-S-H. I still don’t have a Tele :) I have recently become a HUGE Tokai fan, and was considering an early ‘80s Breezy Sound for my next guitar. But, these are hard to come by. So, I started looking at early ‘70s Greco...

    My new ST-100

    Brass shielding?

The old catalogues claim that the STs have brass shielding under their pickguards and this is much better than the aluminium shielding used by its competitors at the time. But none of the two STs I have (42 and 100) have this shielding. Was it a plate or tape that might have worn off? Anyone...

    Wood used for TE-280/300/350

Hi, I am thinking of buying a 1973-4 TE 280/300/350 (Matsumoku factory) and was wondering what wood the body is made of? The neck seems to be three piece maple (as per catalogue) but I just can’t find any online resource that tells me about the body. I have seen listings by some reliable guitar...
