    Tokaiu Silver Star bridge conundrum

Belatedly, I find that another member came to the same conclusion re the Wilkinson being the best fit... http://www.tokaiforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=19519&sid=729406404b468db61cb63341220dc8c1

    Tokaiu Silver Star bridge conundrum

The trem arrived, and its on... plug for http://www.axesrus.co.uk/ for very quick service. Perfect fit, with mounting screws about midway in terms of the tolerance this trem gives - so the original one really was around 55mm Its now floating, with three springs and a set of 9s. There's about...

    Tokaiu Silver Star bridge conundrum

Pretty ok, there's room. It's an odd one, I'll be curious to get a ruler right on top of the holes with strings off and mounting screws out. The Wilkinson bridge has 54mm string spacing, so very close. But very reasonably priced, so no big deal to install, take out, ebay.

    Tokaiu Silver Star bridge conundrum

OK, firstly my eyesight betrayed me, I measured wrong. Its 55mm. The standard replacements are slightly larger or slightly smaller - 54mm or 56.4mm However, Wilkinson make a steel bridge+block that allows for some deviation, so I'm going to give it a go...

    Tokaiu Silver Star bridge conundrum

This is a Silver Star I've had for a while. It's a nice guitar with excellent pickups (although I generally only use the neck pickup on Strats). One of the saddles has the adjustment screws rusted solid and the others aren't great either, so I was thinking this might be a good time to upgrade...

    ES120, ES100 - newbie

As I was replacing the pickups anyway, I also had the pots and switch replaced with top grade US ones, and cloth wire. The pots are now a bit stiff, but I like them that way. I'm not sure what difference it makes soundwise, if any, but the stock selector switch was already a bit flaky and I...

    ES120, ES100 - newbie

The ES120 (now ES135) is a top quality guitar as far as the physical instrument (wood/finish/frets) goes. However, I replaced the wiring, tuneamatic/tailpiece and pickups (Lollars) and its now 100pc in all departments. Can't fault it.

    Love Rock re-fret

When those guitars are made, would I be right in thinking they are fretted first and bound (and nibbed!) second?

    Valves

I've never had a problem with that sort of thing. It might apply to modern car headlamp bulbs, but valves are plenty sturdy enough.

    Love Rock re-fret

I had an old 56 Fretless Wonder refretted and it never crossed my mind to keep the nibs - partly because I wanted bigger wire, and partly because I prefer more fret, less easy to slip off the neck. The chap doing it did offer, and he was well up to the task.

    Love Rock re-fret

I'd lose the nibs and have more fret. Pointless things.

We talking about the binding or the "nibs"?

Upgrading the pickups of my ES-100

A Lollar Imperial in the neck position would be excellent. Full range, great clarity, lots of low end. I've got a matched one of the same at the bridge as well and am very happy with them, but I'm more of a jazz/blues player. Not cheap, though.

    ES100 pickup gunge.

Looks like you still have the sticky film on the pickup covers! If not, get out the duraglit. On no account get wire wool anywhere near the pickups...
