Has anyone tried these pickups?

I had never heard of them until I saw one on eBay. It's a Kent Armstrong P90 pickup in a chrome (or gold) humbucker case, so it's possible to fit P90s to a humbucker fitted guitar without any woodwork alterations. Sounds like a great idea to me, & Kent Armstrong pickups are usually pretty good. Should be ideal for those of us who don't really get on with humbuckers. Maybe a 335 type with P90s is now feasible?

Any views?

I've had some.
I put em in my les paul custom. They are ok, especially for the money, but they are a bit thin sounding, and in fact aren;t actually p90's, they are single coils with a lot of wax!!

Um....a P90 is and always has been a single coil pickup (one row of of pole pieces). The Kent Armstrong pickups are simply P90 single coils that fit and look like humbuckers.

I know, what I meant was its not a true P90 bobbin inside.
I had mine rewound by a uk pickup maker, and he sent me the old KA bobbins, They are strat single coils with a lot of wax.
Not P90's in a HB case, they are strat style single coils voiced like p90's in a hb case.

Kent Armstrong are excellent pickups. They have been around for a long while.

The brand never quite made the SD status, but remain a great product.

Get in touch with this guy, he's called Allan and he hand winds these himself.

I've put a P90 Bridge in a Fender Japan CAR Bound 62' Reissue Tele and it's awesome. These are similar pickups and fit inside a humbucker routing.

He can put coil taps in the wire at underwound, normal and overwound and he also has all the vaious magnet types to give you the full tonal range. You won't get a custom made pickup for less

Hiho!

I've got 'a 79 Les Paul/Reborn with fitted OBL's. Now it's my son's.

Do you have any idea where to get OBL pups? Somehow they just disappeared.

Sorry for bothering, it's somehow off-line.

Cheers! Rupert
