Hello all, I'm considering to purchase a 1984 Tokai Love Rock that someone is selling off of a guitar forum. The seller is claiming it's an LS 80 model but isn't quite sure. It has a solid black finish front and back so there isn't a way to tell if it has a 1 piece back. The pickups are 57 PAF Model. Did the 1984 Love Rock LS 80 models originally come in a black solid color? Are the pickups correct for the LS 80 and did the LS 50 or LS 60 share the same pickups? Is it a sure way to distinguis the LS 80 from LS 50 and LS 60 by the 18 degree headstock angle on the LS 80 compared to the 14 degree headstock angle on the LS 50 and LS 60?

Thank you for your help!

The LS 50 and LS 60 also have the off white color fret binding. Are you specifically referring to the edge of the binding that not only covers the edge of the fretboard but also covers the edge of the frets (nibs)? Or is my terminology incorrect when describing the binding that only covers the edge of the fretboard and not the edge of the frets (nibs)?

Well this one doesn't have the fret edge binding (nibs). Any chance it could still be an LS 80 or does the lack of nibs definitely exclude it? If it has an 18 degree headstock angle then is it more likely that the frets were replaced at some point?

If it is a LS80, it should have both a one piece back, and a solid - non-veneered - top. As Villager indicated, one would also expect fret nibs.

The years from 1983 on found sometimes "creative" specs from Tokai. More exceptions to the rules than in the earlier years.
