Hi there!

I've got this Tokai Jazz Bass bought through some musician forum. I don't know what is its year. And that bass has... changes looking wierd. You may see it by photo #3 (with SN). Its fingerboard, the opposite side. Why did they do this? Is that fingerboard original or not? And how can I find out the production year? Thanks.

That's a late 1981 model.
Neck heel was shaved to get better access to the higher frets

You helped alot. Thank you!

The output signal level is pretty low. That's my first passive bass so I have no idea is it normal or not. Should I clean the contacts, replace wires and regulators? Or maybe it is caused by misplaced strings? I'm not sure I did it right while changing them.

But the sound of that bass is awesome! I would never regret that purchase! <3

Or the neck is not original and it was shaved to get the correct string height. I've done this to make necks play well that are not original.

That would only be possible if the body isn't Tokai. The neck is from that timeframe.
