Yeah it is interesting.... most all of their current guitars on eBay are over 8lbs.

Ash is kind of the same way. Swamp ash obviously has a high water content while living and is very heavy. The water creates small pockets or cells in the wood. After the wood dries out, the pockets remain - kind of like styrofoam (polystyrene) and the aged wood is very light and resonant.

I wonder if the condition applies to the various types of mahogany.
 
Hmmm, the timber at the bottom of a tree is also denser than the timber further up because of the weight of the timber above it, maybe it is higher end mahogany...... :eek:
