I think it is just a poly finish, also the color is Olympic White.
Note sure the year.

It also has the skunk stripe and 8 hole pickguard.

Yes poly & OW. Should be 1980 or earlier because of the skunk stripe neck. The first two digits of the s/n should give the year.

I think this guitar has been available online for at least a year.

I almost bought it as my first Tokai before I found this forum, and saw one here instead (thanks stratman323).

I have seen this guitar on the Rakuten site, a japanese guitar store's site (forgot the name) and it is still advertised on guitarsjapan.com, as well as rinkyastores.

Anyway, while I was still interested in this Springy I contacted guitarsjapan for more photos and info about pickups but to no avail but was reassured it was all original and in practically mint condition.

EDIT: the guitarjapan ad lists the year as 1978.

1978 is a first year issue Springy.... I have a 78 ST60 that could be a twin that that one except for the rosewood neck..... was there an ST50 AND ST60 in 78 or a rosewood board in 78?
