As far as I know, home market Japanese made instruments could be exact replicas of what they were copying, whereas instruments intended for export had to conform to the destination countys import laws. Hence the changed shape to the headstocks on post 1985 S & T type replicas and the extra "tit" on the LP Type headstock. I dont think there are any quality differences.
