If I remember right, to get that SRV relic look to your guitar, the cost was 1250? and if you just wanted to buy one the cost was 2950?. Both ways you get nice leather lightning strap and guitar case painted. Check out the El Mocambo amp with SRV mods.

dark dead guitar?... the relicing process continues through use... so, thats why I asked how do we know when the relicing is finished? Maybe it ends when the player dies or the owner stops playing it.
I`m pretty sure the guitar didn`t look like that when Rory bought it either... so does that mean his is over reliced?
If I based my guitar purchases on what other people think, I`d be playing the saxophone. Play whatever you like...no business of mine.

It's right what sneaky says. You can't achieve the look with just a sander. All is not lost though, you simply need to give it some abuse by adding some well place scratches and nicks, especially in the bare wooded areas of the body.

The neck looks good.

btw Sneaky. I'm a painter too (spent 18 years on aircraft) what do you specialise in?

was a studio art major so I`m more into the fine arts as they`re called...watercolor, oils, pencil, ink after so many years I`ve just about touched on every medium.

as for dulling a finish on a guitar I`ve used Scotch Guard pads...requires more elbow grease than sandpaper but not as abrasive, works really well on removing the stickyness from necks.

I dont know what the finish is but it's about an 1/8 in thick. The guitar was cheep enough to try.
Any sugestions on how to age the hardware and pickguard would be helpful

I have a few luthier friends that dabble in relics and in lieu of sanding and scratching the body they remove all hardware and put the body in the freezer for about a day once the body is removed from the cold they run outside with it on a hot and humid day and the finish will check similar to the way a vintage nitro finish does with age.
