Hi all,

I fell in LOVE. Its serial number 030XXXX , embossed on the wood, and then on the lower part of the headstock it has Made in Japan with black ink. OAK color quilted maple, so i suppose its the LS75Q model. It came with a leather hardcase that had a gold plate sayins "Tokai Gakko etc..." and pink lining inside. 2 bolt truss rod cover. So i am guessing it is a genuine Japanese model right? The grain on the back and the neck looked mahogany.

Anyhow , the best guitar i ve ever played. I with i could upload some pics but i dont know how.

Well, i suppose the following mean that it is indeed an LS85Q made in Japan.

1. The tunomatic bridge was screwed into the body and not into metal washers
2. The TRC was 2 bolt
3. There was a stamped serial number on the back of the headstock 030XXXX
4. There was an ink at the lower part of the back of the headstock saying Made in Japan with black lettering
5. The wood grain on the neck and back was mahogany and not maple (neck).

Right? Coz the computer mistakenly said ALS50Q but with the price of an LS85Q.
Also it came with a leather hardcase as i said.

Just put the IMG tag around your links, and the pictures will be embedded in your postings. Like that:

D'oh! OK, doesn't work, because the link has to end in .jpg or .gif of course... Let's see if I can repair it...

isnt that grain mahogany?
Yes, with a rather unusal light brown finish like on Goldtops. But surely a nice guitar, and made in Japan in 2003 for sure. Why did you first think it was a LS75Q? Did someone tell you that?

Thanks hans.

made me think it is an LS75Q. Can you enlighten me a bit? The guys at the shop, just got 2 as a sample for another branch of the company, and probably had it mistakenly put into their computer as an ALS50Q but with a MIJ pricetag.

Are you sure this is a MIJ one? According to the Ishibashi website this should be an LS85Q Oak LP. Mahogany back etc...

Well, as this is obviously an official export model for the UK because of the dimple on the headstock, it might also be an early 2003 LS75Q, because the UK seems to be full of them.

That link clearly shows the serial number dating it to 2003 and also the export dimple headstock. 2003 was the year Tokai came up with a new catalog and model numbers for the Japanese market which lists this model as a LS85Q either in oak or heritage dark cherry (HDC) finish (a bit difficult to tell from the picture).

Yes, because of the bridge posts that are the usual small version directly drilled into the wood and of course because of the stamped serial number and additional ink stamp which is used on newer Japanese Tokais now. You can also test if the quilted maple "moves" when you turn the guitar around a bit which proves that it is a veneer and not a photo finish like a ALS50Q would have.

Vielen Danke Hans!!!!

Tommorow i ll go and pay it :).... and i ll be a proud tokai owner :)
