NGD 1978 PB80 Hard Puncher

Recent new arrival from Japan - 8001655

Codes don't match!

Body 12=8 GS and marked PB80 in the pickup route. It looks like it could be PB60 but I think it's definitely a faded 8. Definitely nitro.

Neck 1=6 stamped 80 on fretboard but no A stamp. Definitely nitro.

So looks like body is Dec 78 and the neck is Jan 79. It doesn't feel like it's been messed with and felt like it was coming apart for the first time. Maybe the neck has been swapped at some point, I dunno but it feels like a factory guitar.

Pickups marked B S, I only checked one.

Very light, resonant and loud. Lovely flamey neck.

My eyes are blurry in the morning. I thought they had the same lot numbers.

I will say that the body stamp looks like PB80 to me. I was looking at the left edge of the first digit. It curves in like an 8 and not a 6.

Really hard to see, there's also always a possibility that it was Monday morning and someone grabbed the wrong stamp, looks like a one-piece body tho and I guess anything lower would be 2-pc. No doubt the body is matching the neck.

It's a one piece body and it's nitro so it must be an 80. You can see the two curves of the upper part of the 8 very faintly.

I think there were probably all sorts of inconsistencies early on in sorting out production standards like code stamps, etc.

My '79 ST100 is one of those with two "batch" numbers.

And we have seen some mismatched batch numbers on JB120 examples I believe?

I think it's legit and probably one hell of a bass. I'm jealous. That thing might turn me into a bass player.

Ha me too! It really is a great instrument, I've been jamming along to drum loops all morning, can't put it down.
