Looks great! :D

What are we looking at exactly? I can't tell from just the one picture, but I can see it's a Tokai LP, and a gold top to boot (which is good, I like gold tops).

This should be interesting to see what you think of it, as I've seen some of your vids and you were getting good sounds from some reasonably inexpensive guitars. Hope this one is a good one!

1980 tokai reborn

I was gonna say... that looks vintage, but the condition was so good I didn't think it was!

Well, this will be doubly interesting, I'm after one of these myself (at some point).

*** Edit - there's a special forum for these, the "Vintage Older than 1985" forum, and you now have access to it!

I'm pretty excited. I had a recent tokai (japanese) that I stupidly sold and while it was a tad heavy, it was definitely the best les paul i've ever owned. I'm guessing this one is an order of magnitude better.

Looks really nice. Good condition and all original, except maybe the pickup covers. Lot of gold top fans on here, including me. :D

Mazeltov.

I just know you're going to love that guitar, that is something very special...please don't ever sell it.

All the best.

Thanks guys. Other than one nasty person, I'm very happy with the help and support you guys give.

AHHAHA..who was the nasty person?
Sweet LS50...you know that it has the 14 degree headstock angle and not 18 yeah?
But that's one sweet dark back :D

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about the headstock angle, it's one of those things where you need some angle to get sufficient pressure on the nut and once you get there any more angle is... maybe overkill. Of course I have no idea what the exact minimum angle would be, but if you're using normal strings (10-46/11-50) I don't think 14 degrees is going to affect it at all. I'm basing this on the fact that you can (if you must) string up an 18 degree LP with lighter strings and there's no issue with playability or tone.

Gibson themselves used 14 degrees in the 70's and although this era is thought, by many, to be their worst tone wise, the poor tone was probably a result of other factors (maple laminated necks, pancake bodies, excessive weight and general corner cutting by bean counters).

There certainly can't be a technical problem with the 14 degree headstock angle or Gibson and Tokai would not have used it.

*BTW, I didn't realise there was a Reborn under consideration when you posted up about the Tokai and Orville guitars in the other thread. If I had known I would definitely have recommended the Reborn over the Orville.

beautiful looking reborn old , big congrats

I recently got a reborn gold top myself and I can tell you its an absolutely killer guitar , sounds simply amazing.....

I bet you are in for a REAL treat with your oldie goldie , hope you enjoy it

cheers Ian

Thanks for the info. I use .011 strings so the 14 should work in my favor. I also owned a '72 les paul deluxe which was an amazing sounding instrument and if not for the weight would have been a keeper.

You must have found a great deal on the Tokai, . No feb but looks like a very nice axe, congrats! Let us know how she plays...
