Ive just picked up an old MIJ les paul copy at a local auction. its in a bit of a state, someone has stripped the top and headstock so i dont know the manufacturer. but it has a bolt-on neck and has gotoh gold coloured hardware. looks pretty old, 70's I would say. the headstock is bound like a LP custom but it has trapezoid inlays like a LP standard.

the pickups have cream bobbins, and the base reads 'patent applied for - made by gotoh'

any idea what pickups these are? or better still what guitar it is?

I will add pics later if needed.

Does it say 'patent applied for - made by gotoh' or 'patent applied for - made by goto' (no h)

it is missing the h. 'made by goto'

They are the same pickups as found in the 1979-82 Tokai LS80's I don't know if other manufacturers used thrm as well so it's possibly a Tokai, but obviously a low-end model as it has a bolt-on neck.

Some pics might help.

hmm interesting. i will try and get some pics up tomorrow.

are they considered good pickups? or just cheap ones for the low end guitars?

here are some pics...

any help appreciated.

Ummm..Plywood body...looks as though it MIGHT be an old Maya and the back looks to be a stained maple cap.

The Goto PAF's are pretty good, as for the rest of the guitar :D

It doesn't look like a Tokai, as Oz says maybe a Maya or something from the '70's, still if it plays & sounds OK who cares!
