I have bought about 20 LPs in 2011, including 3 Tokais. All excellent guitars, especially the goldtop with Rolphs P-90s. I don't think that one has anything to worry about compared to a Gibson reissue. However, I did pick up one Gibson LP a couple of days ago that is among the best LPs I have had and light at 3.7 kg. To me it looks better than any newer Tokai I have seen but there are some classy ones from the 70's and 80's. It was about the same price as a LS-420 which are impeccable guitars but I wish they would slap some interesting tops on those.
The shop goes to Nashville to select the tops for the guitars they order so maybe Japan ends up with all the good ones? Anyway, a good Les Paul is good, whatever the name on the headstock.
