Locking tuners for LP, Gotoh?

Hi all.

I recently got a Tokai LP as most of you have noticed. It has Gotoh vintage style tuners with pearl buttons non locking.

I was wondering if Gotoh or any other brands offer a direct Locking replacement that requires no new holes or no further boring/conversion on the peghead holes.

I just want to unbolt the existing ones and bolt the new ones. Any ideas?

I ve seen these :

http://wdmusicproducts.co.uk/Mercha..._Code=TNRSLCKNG

They look as direct replacements and locking, but i got no clue if the picture corresponds to reality , if they indeed require no more mods, if they are good tuners and if they lock as you twist (or they require an allen key.).

Anyhow feel free to advise me on this or other tuners.

Yannis

Even the gotoh locking ones that look identical to the stock gotoh non locking ones???

Here is thier gotoh japan page. I wanted the new 510 series 21 to 1 locking tuners and tokai said they would put them on an LS 150, 200 or 320 for a ten percent charge plus parts. The tuners they have are 15 to 1 wich is good, but I wish they were Grovers or 510 Gotohs.

Dear Mark,

Thank you for your e-mail. This is Hiroaki from Ishibashi WEB SHOP.

Unfortunately it is this October we can stock LS120.
I will ask the maker tomorrow if they have ES120, because the maker is off today.
I am sorry for inconvenience.
I will e-mail you again tomorrow.

I would like to inform the cost to manufacture Tokai LS200 & LS320 with Gotoh tuner.
It cost 10% of the guitar price.
For example ===========================
LS200 --- 160,000Yen
Tuner --- ???Yen
Special manufacturing fee --- 20,000Yen
=======================================
But it takes about more 4 or 5 month to manufacture it.

If you have question, please feel free to ask me.
Thank you very much!

Best regards,

Yeah but i wasnt talking about the Gotoh Delta 510 ones... just the plain keystone style locking vintage gotohs

You might find something, But It won't be an improvment over the 15 to 1 standard Gotohs that come on Tokai guitars. If you find a replacement for tuners and they have a better gear ratio, let me know.

So those i posted are indeed direct replacements, but you were talking about the Delta ones with 21-1 gearing right?

That post did not work for me. As I said , try in the U.k. maybee you have something, let me know.

What do you mean it didnt work? The link i posted didnt work, or the actual tuner in my link didnt work?

I called WDmusic and they told me that this tuner is a direct replacement to the non-locking gotoh-kluson style.

I mean the link. But I'm wrong about the replacement . I remember a locking one. But my quest was for a 18 to one or better gear ratio, allthough a locking device and better gear ratio would be sweet. I think it is http://www.stewmac.com/toh that offers this replacement is it not? Check out these guys. AsI said, please let me know what you come up with if it has a better than a 15 to gear ratio, I'll buy it. 8)

I see! T  hanks math 2014, I checked them out. A bit pricey and skimmpy on details. I had some gotoh vintage locking tuners put on a fender Japan 62 reishue strat that I sold recently, very solid tuners with a 15 to 1 ratio. Did they tell you anything about that set? I think I paid about $70.00 for mine installed. I also put some Grover 18 to 1 locking tuners on my 57 elitist gold top Epiphone. They were and are awsome! Let me know what the ratio is.

Thanks, Mark

Tuna,

The one i mention on wdmusic, is 15-1 ratio, vintage style, locking (as you turn to tune) and wdmusic told me its a direct replacement, identical to the Gotoh that Tokai has, but with a locking mechanism inside. So hopefully, no further boring/drilling on the headstock.

here is a pic from the link
