Is your top solid?

When they say "Flame maple + maple top" that is a veneer over a maple cap of course.

So the LS80, 85 (poly finish) & 120 (lacquer finish) look like they were veneer in 2004?

LS200 & 320 were solid.

hi, thanks for the speedy reply, so i asume mine is a ls120f. silly question? how can you tell the difference between veneer and solid tops?regards martin.

You would need to pull one of the pickups ( I would suggest the neck pickup) and follow the grain and center seam into the cavity using a bright light and be sure that the grain and the center seam is continuous. It can be really hard to tell.

If it is veneer then it is an LS80 or 120. 80 is poly, 120 is lacquer

The model number may be marked in the neck pickup cavity.

If you don't see a model number in there, an acetone test may tell you which is which if you can do it inside the cavity compartment.

An LS120 (lacquer) should react to acetone, and an LS80 (poly) will not.

And the model numbers apparently changed between 2003 and 2004. The LS70F became an LS80F.
