Hi Guys after some help or advise on this one, I have listed a 1979 Goldstar sound on Ebay, I truly have no idea of its worth so have admittedly put a ridiculous BIN price and clearly put in the listing this and that I am expecting offers no where near that price.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180673532308&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT#ht_500wt_1156

Now heres the thing, one particular Ebayer sent me an abusive email about my listing! I have no idea what business it is of theirs or why they felt the need but I suppose thats their problem. I am calling on the knowledge of the members of the forum to give me any info on the guitar to help me price it correctly? I hope you can help and please be nice im not trying to rip anybody off, just sell a guitar that is surplus to requirements as my first child is due soon.

First off, it's a Silverstar.... Goldstars didn't show up until 1983 and they have the small pre-CBS headstock.

Judging from your pickups, it might be a higher end Silverstar but your asking price at about $1500 USD is about three times the going rate for these:

You should at the least, look and see what they are going for on eBay before you list them to give you a feel for price.

Yeah - no offence, and it's your perogative of course, but you are asking way over the going rate for a Silverstar, so why ask for it - in the hope that you might catch someone who doesnt know better? No reason for someone to send you an abusive email, but that is very pricey, and could be interpreted as an attempt to rip someone off.

thank you guys all good advice, my mistake it is a silver star, forgive my ignorance on Tokai history I saw and 83 model on ebay at ?875 and assumed as with most strat types older=more valuable!

I am certainly not trying to rip anybody off, i just wanted to test the market. I bought it simply because it plays and sounds great. Im having to shift a lot of my collection to allow for a new arrival!

Great! that makes it an SS40? any idea on value in the UK? if its a cheaper model I might just keep it and add a HB, sorry sacrilege I know but it needs to justify its place in the armory!

SS40 is not the lowest model but it's not top either.... value is relative whether in the UK or US. I'd put it in the $350 - $450 range
