What do our lumber experts think of these?

http://tonerite.com/

Did I see that tokai were doing a similar simulated aging process on some guitars or was I dreaming?

Good question Dave :D

I suppose the theory behind this gadget is similar to the old practice of leaving instruments exposed to loud hi-fi music to help relax the grain. No doubt the tonerite will have some esoteric crystal inside :-?

Somewhere out towards the lunatic fringe of the hi-fi community, there used to be a theory that you should never have a musical instrument ? certainly not an acoustic guitar and especially not an acoustic piano ??in the same room as your hi-fi. A bit further out towards the lunatic fringe there was the related idea that it was best (from the hi-fi's point of view, at least) if you weren't in the room either, since the human body would inevitably absorb some of the energy, even if it wasn't as much as an instrument would soak up.

Small pieces of foil were popular, too ??they probably had a higher profit margin than crystals.

the hi-fi sounds better if you're not in the room to hear it?

or maybe they were linking tiny mics into the room to pick up the hi-fi's sound or something... :-?

That was the general idea. As for the thing with foils, well, I've been lucky enough to find a quote from the FAQ page on the manufacturer's website. And I really couldn't put it better myself:

Question 4

Now I have tried the Rainbow Foil and Cream-Electret, what do you suggest I try next ?

Are the other Foils mentioned in your product list any different to the standard Rainbow Foil? The other Foils in your product list are more expensive than the Rainbow Foil, are they more effective ?

Answer

Yes, all our different Foils (Frosted Rainbow Foil, the group of Morphic Message Foils and Quantum Rainbow Foil with Quantum Cream) 'deal with' different adverse energy patterns which we have identified over the past 15 years. They are all in addition to the Rainbow Foil and Cream-Electret. The more of our devices that are applied to objects, the greater will be the beneficial effect. Most of our regular customers use the standard Rainbow Foil for treating CDs, vinyl records, audio and video tapes (which in some cases amount to many hundreds) and use the more expensive Foils to treat audio, video, computer and other electronic equipment and other passive objects in their listening room.

If you ask me, Tonerite is positively rational in comparison.

He heh,I have to chuckle,I used to be a member of the hi -fi fringe lunatic
club many years ago!!!
Before i listened to my expensive british hi-fi ,I had to unplug the fridge and freezer, wheel out my 32" sony triniton ctr television, unplug the telephone and remove it from the room ,remove all of the light bulbs in the room.
Then i had to wrap myself up in a sound asorbing suit which made me sonically invisible in the room,MAN WHAT A SOUND! I COULD HEAR JIMI HENDRIXS SHOES SQUEAK DURING THE PURPLE HAZE SOLO :D

I can't help feeling that the real effect of all these fads is purely psychosomatic and driven by the innate superstitious nature of Man

Crystals are the latest hi-fi fad. I know someone who has tried them and he said his hi-fi sounded bad for a week and then it sounded better than before. Now he's hooked on them, putting them everywhere.

seems that this 'system' is targeted at the acoustic instrument market AFA the web page

at the age of 11 to 15, I played cello for four years; the last two years I played first chair in an 85 piece orchestra

I don't think it would have helped my playing

will the ToneRight work? will it work on a solid body guitar? I don't know & don't really care :p

I could spend the extra cash on guitar strings, or Canadian Club :D :D ..........

Mastered three live CDs recently, and we had all sorts of problems with unexplained and completely unpredictable glitches until we eventually worked out that they were being caused by the office fridge switching itself on and off during a heatwave.

He probably just turned his hi-fi up. Don't think you can trust a single word that anyone says about hi-fi unless and until they've proved that the sound levels were identical across their tests.

Oh dear, this is worse than I thought.

I prescribe 2 teaspoonfuls of this...
