Received this as a gift from someone who recently packed in his guitar playing?
Have been online and cannot determine what it is exactly. Is it a fake of a fake (Fakai?) ? What would the model number be?
What is it worth? I beleive this guitar was purchased in Calgary, Canada within the last 10 years. That is all I know. The thing sounds great.

Looks like a Chinese or Korean Custom.

Export dimple.

4 Diamond headstock inlay which was used 1983-1989. I’m scratching my head because this seems newer.

Tuners and pickups were changed.

What made you think it might be fake?

This may help. Reborn Old is a member here as well.

“The 6 digit serial number suggests to me it is of Korean origin and actually a lower model than a Japan made LC-70.

Made in Japan UK export models (with the center dimple headstock) would have a seven digit number….Japan models would have been equipped with Kieko Mk2 pickups with braided leads, You can check for these by pulling the control cavity cover and checking leads soldered to the volume pots….

As for this one possibly being Korean, double check the serial #, and check for spotting tips like paler fret board woods, a much thicker Tokai inlay with an almost closed "a" (Japan "a" is very open at the top, almost like a "u") square nut cross section instead of sloping down toward headstock, Possibly white rear covers, thick bridge posts with visible sleeves at post bases, cheap plastic inlays, as in last 4 pics below. A scarf joint can be located at the headstock instead of lower on the neck. Korean specs changed over the years so spotting tips are flags rather than definitive.”

First off, thanks for the replies.

Not sure why I think its a fake;

1) the person I received the guitar knew nothing about guitars when it was purchased.....easy mark perhaps.
2) have learned that Fakais we a Canadaian thing and this guitar was puchased in Calgary.
3) looking through many on line and havent seen one like it. whether the serial number, tuning keys, or truss rod cover design.

Thanks again and please let me know if you come across additional information.

Tuners were definitely switched. TRC too I would assume.

The serial looks like a Korean build I’m thinking. Someone else will jump in if that’s off.

If someone were to fake a Tokai I doubt it would be one with an export dimple.

Enjoy the guitar.
