I actually purchased the heavily modded VS-80 pictured above. The first thing I'll do when it gets here is take that atrocious looking pickguard off and see what the damage is. My intent is to return it to stock as much as possible. I've already bought the decal, knobs, and an appropriate wiring harness for the stock configuration.

I'm still working on restoring the cherry burst VS-80. It has a hole in the top where the output jack once was. I've also filled in the screw holes from the pickguard, but I took the pic before doing that. A few images of the damage and progress:
But, more excitingly and pertinent to this thread, I also just scored a green burst VS-80 and wanted to share pics from the listing. It is lightly modified but looks good overall. I'll be returning the pickups and knobs to stock. I'll likely leave the wiring and extra switches as they are. Pics:
